Amalfi Coast
Cliffside villages and limoncello
What it actually costs
When to go
Insanely crowded, road gridlock, beach space costs €30+ per person, hotels triple in price.
Path of the Gods hike: start by 7am from Bomerano. After 9am the narrow path gets congested and hot.
What locals know
SITA bus is €2.50 and covers the whole coast. Cars are pointless — road is one lane and parking non-existent.
Atrani (1 min walk from Amalfi town) is a hidden village with a beach, no crowds, and real restaurants at half the price.
Limoncello: buy from small producers in Amalfi/Ravello, not tourist shops. Real limoncello is cloudy and thick.
Ravello concerts at Villa Rufolo (summer) are magical — classical music on a terrace overlooking the sea.
Honest warnings
Roads are terrifying. If you rent a car, get the smallest one possible. Buses are genuinely easier.
Beach chairs are €15-30/person at most beaches. Free beach is tiny and packed.
Book restaurants in Positano/Ravello 2+ days ahead in summer. Walk-ins are nearly impossible.
