Unbearably hot (35°C+), overcrowded beaches, locals have left. September has the same weather with half the tourists.

Crowd tip

Sagrada Familia: first entry slot (9am) is dramatically quieter. Park Guell free zone is better than the paid area.

What locals know

1

Skip Las Ramblas restaurants — tourist traps. Walk one block into El Born or El Raval for the real food.

2

Vermouth hour (12-2pm) is sacred. Order a 'vermut' with olives at any bar in Gracia neighbourhood.

3

The beach is fine but Barceloneta is packed. Take the metro to Bogatell or Nova Icaria — same sand, 1/3 the people.

4

Book Sagrada Familia tickets at least 2 weeks ahead. They sell out daily.

Honest warnings

Pickpockets are world-class here. Las Ramblas, Metro, beach — front pockets, zip bags.

Restaurants don't serve dinner before 9pm. Showing up at 7pm is considered bizarre.

Tourist apartments are controversial — some neighbourhoods actively protest them. Be respectful.
