When to go
45°C+ heat. Not 'hot.' Genuinely dangerous to be outside. The city empties.
Dubai Mall on weekends (Fri-Sat) is insane. Go Sunday-Tuesday. Burj Khalifa sunset slot (5:30pm) sells out weeks ahead.
What locals know
The Metro is excellent, cheap, and air-conditioned. Gold class (first class) is only AED 6 extra and worth it in rush hour.
Old Dubai (Deira, Bur Dubai) is where the real food is — Indian, Pakistani, Yemeni, Iranian restaurants for AED 15-30 per person.
Alcohol is only served in hotels and licensed venues. Budget AED 40-80 per drink. Friday brunch deals (all-you-can-drink) are the local hack.
The Creek crossing by abra (traditional boat) costs AED 1 and is the most scenic 5 minutes in Dubai.
Honest warnings
Public displays of affection, swearing, and being drunk in public are technically illegal. Enforcement is rare for tourists but not zero.
Friday is the holy day (like Sunday). Some things close or have reduced hours Friday morning.
Dress modestly in malls and public spaces. Beachwear is only for the beach/pool.
