What it actually costs
When to go
Dark, wet, cold. Pubs are cosy but there's little else to do in persistent rain and 4pm darkness.
Guinness Storehouse: book the Connoisseur Experience (€50, small group, includes proper tasting) instead of the standard self-guided (€28, crowded).
What locals know
Temple Bar is for tourists (€8+ per pint). Cross the river to Stoneybatter or go south to Portobello/Rathmines — same craic, local prices (€5.50-6.50/pint).
Howth (30 min DART train) for cliff walks, fresh seafood, and seal-watching. Best half-day trip from Dublin.
Traditional music sessions (trad): Cobblestones (Smithfield) is the real deal — musicians play for love, not tips. Every night from 9pm.
Dublin Pass is not worth it. Most things are free or cheap individually. Skip it.
Honest warnings
Dublin is expensive. Pints are €6-8, dinner is €20-30 minimum.
Taxis are scarce late at night. Free Now app is the local Uber. Book 30 mins before you need it.
Rain is almost daily but rarely heavy or long. Bring a light waterproof, never an umbrella (wind destroys them).
