45°C+ in May-June, then monsoon July-September. October onwards is pleasant.

Crowd tip

Amber Fort at opening (8am) before the elephant rides and tour groups arrive. Hawa Mahal is best photographed from the rooftop cafe across the street.

What locals know

1

Stay in a haveli (traditional mansion) — many are now heritage hotels for ₹2,000-5,000/night. The experience is incomparable to chain hotels.

2

Chokhi Dhani is a tourist village but genuinely fun — Rajasthani dinner with folk performances, camel rides, puppet shows. Go at 7pm.

3

Lassi at Lassiwala (MI Road) — the original shop with marble counter. ₹40 for the best lassi in Rajasthan.

4

Nahargarh Fort at sunset for panoramic city views. Take a tuk-tuk (₹200-300 up, walk down).

Honest warnings

Touts and "guides" are aggressive at every monument. Say "no thank you" firmly and walk away.

Auto-rickshaw drivers will take you to their friend's shop for commission. Insist on your destination only.

Dress conservatively in temples. Shoulders and knees covered. Remove shoes.
