Mexico City
Tacos, art, and ancient history
What it actually costs
When to go
Rainy season. Heavy afternoon downpours daily (2-4pm). Mornings are usually clear.
Museo Nacional de Antropologia: go Tuesday-Thursday. Weekends are packed with families. Teotihuacan: arrive at 8am opening, before tour buses at 10am.
What locals know
Street tacos are the pinnacle of food in CDMX. Look for taco stands with a crowd of locals at lunch. MX$15-30 per taco ($1-2).
Roma Norte and Condesa are the best neighbourhoods for walking, cafes, and nightlife. Parks, art deco architecture, and excellent restaurants everywhere.
Uber is safer and cheaper than street taxis. Always use the app, never hail a cab on the street.
Chapultepec Castle has the best view of the city and is inside a massive forest park. Free on Sundays.
Mezcal bars in Roma Norte — La Clandestina and Boqueria are excellent. Ask the bartender to choose for you.
Honest warnings
